

Tom Welch, Director, President and CEO
Mr. Welch, joined ABT as the President and CEO of ABT Molecular Imaging, Inc. in December 2009. Prior to joining ABT, Mr. Welch was the CEO of PETNET Solutions, Inc., a division of Siemens Medical Solutions, Inc. Mr. Welch helped PETNET grow from 12 to over 50 radiopharmacies in his 11 years with PETNET to become the world’s largest manufacturer and distributor of PET radiopharmaceuticals located in four countries with drug manufacturing licenses on three continents. Prior to joining PETNET in 1998, Mr. Welch led the financial team of a start-up technology company, Celerity Systems, Inc., which subsequently held an initial public offering in October 1997. Mr. Welch began his career with Coopers & Lybrand, LLP in 1992. Mr. Welch conducted his undergraduate and graduate work at the University of Tennessee, receiving his MBA in 2005.
Dr. Ronald Nutt, Chairman
Prior to founding ABT in 2006, Dr. Nutt co-founded CTI Molecular Imaging, Inc. in 1983. He was Vice President of Research and Development from 1983 through 1998 when he became the President of CTI PET Systems, a joint venture between Siemens and CTI. In 2002 he became the President and Chief Executive Officer of CTI Molecular Imaging, Inc. a NASDAQ public company. Dr. Nutt led the negotiations resulting in the sale of CTI to Siemens in 2005. As Vice President of R&D, Dr. Nutt had more than 30 patents in the field of molecular imaging, authored and co-authored a large number of technical publications and has presented invited talks at numerous conferences.
Prior to founding CTI Molecular Imaging, Dr. Nutt was the co-founder of several other companies including Technology for Energy Corporation, Radio Systems Corporation and Delta M Corporation. Dr. Nutt was the Vice President of EG&G ORTEC during the time frame of 1969 through 1979 where he was responsible for developing many innovations in the field of nuclear physics instrumentation. Prior to ORTEC he was a researcher at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and taught Electrical Engineering at the University of Tennessee. Dr. Nutt holds a BS, MS and PhD from the University of Tennessee and was awarded in 1997 the Dean Daugherty award for his outstanding achievements, the highest Engineering Alumni honors. Dr. Nutt is a Fellow of the IEEE and was named by the organization the Outstanding Engineering for the Eastern part of the US in 1999 for his contributions to molecular imaging. He was also awarded the Distinguished Scientist of the Year by the Academy of Molecular Imaging in year 1999. In year 2000 the PET/CT invention which Dr. Nutt co-authored was named "Medical Invention of the Year" by Time magazine. He was awarded the Honorary Doctor of Medicine by the University of Essen in Germany in 2008.
Professor Bengt Langstrom, Director
Bengt Langstrom is currently Professor at Uppsala University, where he had served as the Director of Uppsala University PET Centre, Imperial College of London and The University of South Denmark. He has over 30 years of experience in the synthesis and applications of PET radiochemistry. His publications exceed 350 in chemistry journals and over 450 in life sciences and medicine. He has received several awards for his research and recently was awarded the Society of Nuclear Medicine's Georg Charles de Hevesy Nuclear Pioneer Award for his contributions to the nuclear medicine profession in 2010.
Dennis J. Dougherty, Director
Mr. Dougherty is the founding general partner of Intersouth Partners, an early-stage venture capital firm that invests in life science and technology companies throughout the Southeast. Since founding the firm in 1985, Mr. Dougherty has served on dozens of boards of directors for both private and public companies. He is known for his experienced insight, consensus building and syndicate leadership.
He has long been active in the venture industry having served on the board of directors for the National Venture Capital Association and on the Steering Committee for the Kauffman Fellows Program, and as a mentor for several classes of Kauffman Fellows. Mr. Dougherty was a founder of the highly successful Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) and the Chair of its first Venture Conference. He sits on the Board of the Medical University of South Carolina Foundation for Research Development.
Prior to founding Intersouth, Mr. Dougherty was an office managing partner with Touche Ross & Co. (now Deloitte & Touche), responsible for the high growth business practice. Mr. Dougherty holds a B.A. from Oklahoma City University, where he was named a Distinguished Alumnus of the Year. In 2005, Mr. Dougherty was named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for the Carolinas.
